The Name 'Beverly Hills'

Beverly Hills was named after Beverly Farms, Massachusetts by Burton & Lilian Green in 1906. Where did Beverly come before that? English settlers had borrowed it from a town near Yorkshire England named “Beverley” back in the 1600’s. Read more about the nomenclature from Beverly Highlights.

Growth was encouraged by the construction of the Beverly Hills Hotel in 1912. The City of Beverly Hills was incorporated in 1914. A wave of famous movie stars spurred growth of stately homes throughout the area.

The name is ubiquitous as the most luxurious part of the Hollywood allure. It is the center of LA’s high brow culture and safe haven to the world’s most elite influencers.
